Prep Kit C Instructions

It is very important that you read these instructions carefully. In order for your colonoscopy to be successful the bowel must be thoroughly cleansed so that a clear view can be obtained. In this way it is much less likely that any problems inside your bowel could be missed due to being obscured by bowel motion. A less than satisfactory preparation can lead to the procedure needing to be abandoned on the day, and will often mean it requires repeating. Following on from the preparation, if taken according to these instructions, you should find that you are passing only small amounts of clear yellowy brownish fluid and no solids.

One week prior to colonoscopy:

  • Stop iron tablets or supplements.
  • Stop Warfarin, Asprin or Plavix (Clopidogrel).

Two days before your procedure:

  • Don’t eat: cereals, brown bread, vegetables, seeds or food containing seeds.
  • Do eat: egg, steamed fish, chicken, cottage cheese, plain yoghurt, vanilla ice cream, white bread, white pasta, white rice, well-cooked potato, milk.
  • Do drink: at least 2-3 litres of clear fluids.
  • Avoid alcohol.

One day before your procedure:

  • Clear fluids only – at least one glass every two hours.
  • Don’t eat at all.
